Medical Matters

Asthma

Our policy is that children should have unrestricted access to their own inhalers.  We advise that children always carry small inhalers around with them either in a ‘bum bag’ or in their pocket.  Larger inhalers need to be kept easily available in class.

Medication

If a doctor prescribes medicines for your child, they may, at the discretion of the Head Teacher, be administered at school.  If medicines can be taken at home then we would prefer this.  These should always be clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage and handed directly to the school office.  A form will need to be signed by the parent.

Sickness

If your child is off school due to sickness, please notify the school office as soon as possible by whatever method is convenient for you, e-mail, telephone message or in person are all acceptable.

Medical Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment during school hours, please let either the class teacher or school office know. The school reserves the right to ask to see the appointment card or letter.

If there is any other information that we should know about in respect of your child’s health, such as allergies, please advise the school office and your child’s teacher.

Our policy on Medical Needs sets out in more detail how we support children with specific medical needs.
